Carl Hayes was born in Dothan, Alabama in 1971 and moved to California when he was three, where he grew up mostly in the Big Bear Lake area in Southern California. He is the author of Loaded Stories: Memories and Tales of Fathers, 1970s California, and Other Complications and The New and Improving Thomas: A Self-Help Novel. He lives in San Francisco.
